How can you end your video call politely?
Nowadays we all work from our homes or sometimes pretend to be working. We are now making more Zoom, Skype, MS Teams calls. Well, if the conversation is over and when it is time to close, the other party does not understand this and constantly prolongs the subject. Will you say “Our meeting was good, but now I have to go”?
Or can we really say that?
The first thing that comes to mind may be to turn off your computer by pressing the shutdown button with a slash, but when you call again after 5 minutes, nobody believes the lie that suddenly comes out of your mouth, “I’m sorry, the electricity is gone”.
I have another plan!
While it’s alleged that someone in quarantine at home has no plans these days, the truth is that most of us still have plans — or at least tasks that need to be done before the day is over. If you can end your Zoom conversation by saying, “Sorry, but I have to empty the dishwasher” and “Hey, I have my laundry in the machine, they will wrinkle if I don’t hang it up right now”, you are gorgeous. At least in your partner’s eyes.
Although these are the facts of life, we still cook at home, still do laundry, still help our children with homework, or if we need to take our pet friends for a walk, we may not be able to tell the other person in our zoom meeting. The best excuse for this is to say “I have to send a report to my manager within 10 minutes, do you have any permission”.
Oh sorry, it’s time for another video call!
You can end your call by saying, “I had another video call in my calendar and it’s time, they are waiting for me to see you”. I like this excuse because the accuracy is high these days and this is true for all of us. Because these days we can really do a lot of video calls throughout the day.
Shall we continue at 14 o’clock on Thursday?
If you have no excuses and the interview is not really over, it would be very unprofessional to end the call by specifying a specific day and time. Because this will make you feel that you are working in a planned way and that you value your time by sparing your time in this busy agenda. After closing the call, you can start emptying your dishwasher by listening to your spotify list.
If you have any other suggestions or helpful phrases for kindly ending a never-ending video call, you can let me know in the comments. After all, happiness increases when shared. Oh, by the way, I’m sorry, but it’s time for another meeting. Shall we continue at 14 o’clock on Thursday?
